Russian MFA threatens revenge against Moldova: what is the reason

The spokeswoman of the MFA of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, stated that "the decision of the Moldovan side will not remain unanswered; the measures taken will be notified additionally." It is about Moldova's support of EU anti-Russian sanctions on November 23.

Russia accuses Moldova of "hostile steps"

The spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova, promises to respond to Moldova due to its joining the four packages of European Union sanctions against Moscow.

In the style traditional for Russian propaganda, Zakharova accused Moldova of "hostile steps" and an "anti-Russian campaign" aimed at the "destruction of Russian-Moldovan relations."

The spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry is convinced that the people of Moldova "in the vast majority have a friendly attitude towards Russia and are interested in preserving and developing multifaceted bilateral cooperation."

Odious Zakharova stated, "The decision of the Moldovan side will not go unanswered; the measures taken will be reported additionally."

Moldova supports anti-Russian sanctions

Last week, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova, Niku Popescu, said that Moldova had joined four EU sanctions introduced against Russia over the past year and a half.

At the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Moldova declared that it would not immediately join specific restrictive measures, in particular, sanctions against the Russian Federation.

In March 2023, Popescu announced that Chisinau would reevaluate some of the sanctions decisions it had made earlier and introduce new ones. He promised that the country's adherence to EU sanctions would increase significantly.

Moldova, together with Ukraine, is a candidate for joining the EU. The European Union expects its future members to agree on a foreign policy vector and, in particular, to comply with the sanctions policy of the European Union.
