Polish farmers started the announced blockade of one of the checkpoints on the border with Ukraine — "Medyka — Shegyni".

What is known about the blockade of the checkpoint "Medyka — Shegyni"

According to Ukraine's State Border Guard Service speaker, Colonel Andriy Demchenko, the actions of Polish farmers to block the movement of vehicles began in front of the "Medyka" checkpoint, which is opposite the Ukrainian "Shegyni".

At around 10:10 a.m., the Ukrainian border guards were informed about this by their Polish colleagues.

Traffic is blocked by about 100 people and about 50 vehicles. Due to these actions, the movement of trucks, cars and buses to the exit from the Republic of Poland and to the entry into the Republic of Poland is currently not carried out. We hope that the situation will change as soon as possible and certain categories of transport will still be allowed to pass, Demchenko said.

According to Demchenko, in other directions, where traffic blocking was also planned on February 9, namely the directions of the "Yagodyn" and "Rava-Ruska" checkpoints, the movement of vehicles is currently taking place, but information about the beginning of the blocking has not yet been received from the Polish side.

He added that according to information from his Polish colleagues, two more directions should also be blocked or action should be taken to block them: "Ugryniv" and “Ustilug”.

But these actions are supposed to take place starting February 12. He said we do not have official confirmation from our Polish colleagues in other areas.

On November 6 last year, Polish carriers started strikes at the border with Ukraine. Polish protesters demanded the return of the pass system for Ukrainian carriers.

On January 17, 2024, the Polish government signed an agreement with carriers to unblock the border with Ukraine. As part of the agreement, the parties agreed to suspend protests at the entrances to three checkpoints on the border until March 1.

On January 31, the European Commission recommended extending the abolition of import duties for agricultural goods from Ukraine until 2024. Polish farmers immediately declared that they did not support the actions of the EU.

Polish farmers announced protests on the Ukrainian border on February 9. The protesters want to block the Dorogusk-Yagodin checkpoint first.
