According to Finland's leader Sauli Niinistö, Russia's facilitation of the influx of migrants to the Finnish border is not so much an operation against his country as "part of a wider context."

Putin is conducting a new operation on the international stage

The President of Finland draws attention to the fact that Latvia, Lithuania and Poland faced a similar hybrid operation earlier.

Actions of Russia against Finland are not something separate from the general context. A propaganda war is being waged in Russia, Russia aims to confuse the West, Sauli Niinistö shared his opinion on this matter.

According to the politician, the effect of this may be the opposite of what the Russian dictator is counting on.

The leader of Finland also emphasized that the use of migration as a tool of pressure provokes a flurry of emotions not only in Finland but also at the European level.

And this may turn out to be an additional incentive to continue supporting Ukraine, Sauli Niinistö concluded.

What happened on the border between Finland and Russia

As mentioned earlier, since November 30, Finland's border with Russia has been completely closed for at least two weeks - only freight trains can move.

Officials in Helsinki made such a decision after asylum seekers and citizens of third countries began to arrive en masse from Russia at the checkpoint in November.

What is essential to understand is that previously, Russian border guards did not allow travellers who did not have the documents required to enter Finland to leave.

In connection with the situation on the eastern border, employees of the European agency Frontex have arrived in Finland.

Frontex representatives said that increased migration pressure on the Finland border may persist for a long time.
