According to the Ukrainian military, the criminal army of Russia is trying to cover up tactical failures during the assaults in the Avdiivka area by using numerical superiority.

What is known about the situation in the Avdiivka area

According to the journalists of the publication, the Ukrainian military are determined to further defend the city, but, according to them, the criminal army of Russia has a numerical advantage in personnel and military equipment.

The Russians may be idiots, but they have more than that, said Ivan Smaha, lieutenant colonel and commander of the 25th assault battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who is taking part in the defence of Avdiivka.

He stressed that the criminal army of Russia has concentrated about 40,000 soldiers around the city and is conducting attacks with the support of tanks, armoured vehicles and heavy artillery.

The military also acknowledged that since the end of summer, the garrison of Ukrainian defenders has been receiving less ammunition.

We have enough to defend ourselves against attacks. But if they keep up the pressure, we will need much more, Smaha said.

What defenders of Avdiivka say

He also added that the weapons Ukraine received from its Western partners play a key role in the town's defence.

In particular, he praised the artillery and US Bradley infantry fighting vehicles provided by our partners.

I love them. They terrify the enemy. They are manoeuvrable. When you sit inside, you feel protected, the soldier said.

Smaha added that Ukraine urgently needs US F-16 fighter jets to counter Russian aircraft dropping 500kg bombs on the city.

Regarding the prospects for continuing the struggle in general, Ukrainian fighters emphasise that there is simply no alternative to armed resistance.

Putin does not want negotiations. And neither do we. Many of our guys have died. They paid a huge price. If we stop now, why? We are not worried about Russia's superiority in infantry. 140 million of them. We are worried that they have more weapons, says Yuriy Zubchak, one of the defenders of Avdiivka.

The article notes that the issue of withdrawal from Avdiivka is not even on the agenda of the Ukrainian military.

We will stand to the end. If the West does not support us, Moscow will try to seize Kyiv again, as it did in 2022. And this will continue, Smaha emphasises.
