The UK Secretary of Defense reacted to the "Novocherkassk" destruction

Grant Shapps

The UK Secretary of Defense, Grant Shapps, publicly reprimanded Kyiv's partners, who despaired that Ukraine would be able to defeat the Russian Federation. That is how he commented on the destruction of the large landing ship "Novocherkassk" in Crimea.

The UK Secretary of Defense is delighted with the new AFU successes

According to the Secretary, the destruction of another vital ship of the Black Sea Fleet "demonstrates that those who believe that the war in Ukraine has reached a dead end are wrong!"

They haven't noticed that over the past 4 months 20% of Russia's Black Sea Fleet has been destroyed, Grant Shapps emphasised.

He also drew attention to the fact that Russia's dominance in the Black Sea was under threat.

The new UK & Norway led Maritime Capability Coalition is helping to ensure Ukraine will win at sea, the UK Secretary of State for Defense said.

What is known about the Russian ship "Novocherkassk"

"Novocherkassk" (BDK-46) is a large landing ship of the Ropucha-class project 775 (775/II) that was in service with the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy.

It was created to land marines on the unequipped coast and transfer troops and cargo by sea.

This Russian ship could transport various types of armoured vehicles, including tanks. Initially, it had the board number 108, and from May 1, 1989, it was assigned the board number 142.

On March 24, 2022, it was damaged as a result of shelling in the port of Berdyansk during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and three crew members died.

At the same time, the landing ship "Saratov" was sunk.
