According to the UN Refugee Agency, Ukraine will soon face the problem of slowing down the provision of aid.
UN aid to slow down in 2024
This was stated by the head of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi.
The UN representative draws attention to the fact that the work of UNHCR and other relief organizations has been well-funded over the past two years.
However, according to him, it is simply impossible to avoid cuts in 2024.
Filippo Grandi does not hide that the Russian-Ukrainian war has lost its relevance against the background of the conflict in the Middle East.
In addition to what is essential to understand, Ukraine's prominent donors — Germany, the United States, and the EU — still haven't decided on the size of their aid to Kyiv.
What is known about the number of Ukrainian refugees
Filippo Grandi notes that according to United Nations estimates, there are 3.7 million internally displaced persons in Ukraine and another 6.3 million refugees in other countries.
The Russian authorities continue to claim that another 1.3 million Ukrainians allegedly live in Russia.
However, the UN is unable to verify this data because access to Ukrainian citizens on the territory of the aggressor country remains extremely limited.
