The United States, Great Britain and EU countries are putting pressure on Liberia, the Marshall Islands and Panama, demanding an end to the sale of oil from the Russian Federation at a price that exceeds the established limit of $60 per barrel.

What is known about the opposition of the USA and its allies to the sale of oil from Russia above the price limit

According to the publication, it is shipped under the flags of Liberia, the Marshall Islands, and Panama, transporting Russian oil, which is later sold in violation of the price limit maintained by Western countries.

It is noted that the letters, which were sent to the authorities of Panama, the Marshall Islands and Liberia, were signed by US Deputy Treasury Secretary Brian Nelson, the head of international finance at the UK Treasury, Lindsey White, and the head of the European Commission's financial services department, John Berrigan.

According to Lloyd's List Intelligence, about 40% of the roughly 535 shadow fleet tankers are registered in the Marshall Islands.

What the USA demands from the countries that transport oil from the Russian Federation

The article notes that the pressure is exerted not to reduce the number of vessels transporting Russian oil but to force compliance with the established price limit and increase the Russian Federation's costs during transportation.

The letters refer to the growing number of attempts to circumvent the price restrictions on Russian oil set by the G7 and the high risk associated with ships that do not provide Western insurance and other services and seek other flags.

Accordingly, the US, the EU and the UK are asking Liberia and the Marshall Islands to raise awareness among traders that their flag should not be used for tankers carrying oil at a price above the threshold.

It is added that the three countries themselves are not threatened with sanctions.
