Washington plans to halve Russia's income from the sale of oil and gas by the end of 2030.

US to seek a significant reduction in Russian energy revenues

US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt confirmed this information.

According to him, the American authorities will do everything possible to make this a reality.

It is essential to understand that he was referring to the International Energy Agency's forecast that Russia's oil and gas exports could drop by at least 40-50 percent by 2030 if the West does not lift its sanctions against the aggressor state.

One of the American officials explained that the US sanctions, in particular against energy carriers, should become a guarantee that the Russian Federation will never again be able to attack one of its neighbours.

This is something that we will have to adhere to for many years as long as Putin continues this war... The purpose of these sanctions is to change the behavior of the Russian Federation and ensure that Putin does not have the opportunity, whenever some kind of peace is achieved, to use the three or four years to rearm and prepare to the third stage of the invasion of Ukraine, the US State Department representative explained.

The US is looking for tools to weaken Russia

According to Geoffrey Pyatt, the official Washington is currently trying to understand what needs to be done to make the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation lose its effectiveness.

As mentioned earlier, the aggressor country uses it to circumvent sanctions and sell its oil to buyers, mainly in India and China, at prices that exceed the upper limit set by the G7 countries.

The US State Department representative noted that hindering Russia's future revenues is as essential as harming its current finances.

This has huge geopolitical consequences from the point of view of how the Kremlin can behave in the international arena, he noted.
