The head of Ukrainian diplomacy, Dmytro Kuleba, publicly thanked German leader Olaf Scholz for persuading Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban not to block the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU during the EU summit.

Kuleba considers Scholz's decision on Ukraine historic

According to the Ukrainian diplomat, the German chancellor did everything he could to eliminate the threat of a Hungarian veto.

This will go down in history as an act of German leadership in the interests of Europe, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister stressed.

Dmytro Kuleba also drew attention to the fact that this act of Olaf Scholz caused a lot of sincere and well-deserved admiration in the hearts of Ukrainians.

In addition, the head of Ukrainian diplomacy recalled how in May 2022 he called on Germany to grant Ukraine the status of an EU candidate.

Moreover, the diplomat asked the official Berlin to initiate this process, but for a long time his calls were simply ignored.

"Germany does not want to be a leader," experts and politicians told me in Berlin. I am glad that German political decisions have changed since then. I can only hope that this also means a broader and irreversible change in Germany's attitude towards leadership in solving the most difficult issues, Kuleba said.

Ukraine will never forget the help from Germany

According to the head of Ukrainian diplomacy, our country actually has many reasons to be grateful to Germany, which helps us not only with weapons but also financially.

Nevertheless, the EU made a fateful decision that Ukraine is perhaps "the best Christmas present from Berlin".

According to Dmytro Kuleba, grey zones are no longer possible in Europe.

Either you paint the map of Europe in EU colours to guarantee security and prosperity for all Europeans, or Putin paints it in blood and brings more suffering, instability and destruction. I am glad that this week we are all safer and more confident, Kuleba concluded.
