On November 13, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, officially confirmed that he is working on preparing the EU's future obligations in the security field for Ukraine.
Borrell assures that Ukraine is a priority for the European Union
According to the European diplomat, the 27 ministers of foreign affairs of the European Union “adopted a joint message in support of Ukraine” during the meeting.
In addition, the chief of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Dmytro Kuleba, was speaking with the ministers during the meeting.
How the European Union plans to strengthen support for Ukraine
As already mentioned earlier, during the October 27 summit, the leaders of EU member states tasked Borrell “on the basis of the framework to be approved by the Council” to hold consultations with official Kyiv regarding the EU's future commitments in the security sphere.
In addition, the diplomat will have to report on their results at the European Council meeting in December.
The chief of European Diplomacy previously spoke of plans to allocate €20 billion to the European Peace Fund as part of these “security guarantees”.
However, as the journalists find out, his [Borrell’s] intentions were met with resistance from individual members of the EU and may not be implemented in their current form.
