On 16 December, a lorry and a Ford Focus car with military licence plates collided in the village of Smozhe, Lviv region. According to the latest reports, four people were killed, including three soldiers.

Road accident involving military personnel in the Lviv region: what is currently known

The fatal accident occurred on the Kyiv-Chop highway.

According to the State Special Transport Service and local journalists, a colonel, a lieutenant colonel and a soldier of the State Special Transport Service were killed in the accident.

According to preliminary data, the collision occurred while overtaking.

According to the Lviv Regional Centre for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine, four of the victims of the accident, aged around 40, sustained injuries incompatible with life and died before paramedics arrived.

The lorry driver had an acute stress reaction and was provided with medical care, but refused hospitalisation.

How the authorities reacted to the accident in the Lviv region

The State Special Transport Service, which is known to be part of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, has already officially confirmed that its employees, who were on a business trip, were killed in a road accident in the Lviv region.

On 16 December, at around 14:30, while on a business trip to Lviv region, Deputy Head of the Administration of the State Special Transport Service, Colonel Viktor Zhigunov, Lieutenant Colonel Vasyl Kravets, soldier Dmitry Sologub and citizen Natalia Dubrovskaya were killed in a road accident, the press service of the State Special Transport Service said.
