Law enforcement officers completed the investigation into the commander and the grenadier soldier of the Ternopil Territorial Recruiting and Social Support Center (TRC),  who abused conscripts in October 2023. The case was referred to the court.

What is known about the incident with TRC employees in Ternopil

The investigation established that on the evening of October 6, a grenadier soldier and other servicemen stopped a resident in the centre of Ternopil to check his documents.

They found out that the man was born in Murmansk, Russia, although he is a citizen of Ukraine. The military offered him a ride to the recruiting centre.

When he refused, the man from Ternopil was forcefully pushed into the car, inflicting blows at the same time, and was taken to the TRC premises.

Then, the military beat him and another mobilised person on the premises of the Recruiting Center.

A grenadier soldier and the commander of the security department struck the men who were lying on the beds in the TRC. The corresponding video was shared on social networks. One of the victims received moderate injuries, and the other received light injuries.

According to the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), in this way, the TRC employees wanted to force the men to undergo a military medical examination and punish them for the conflict with the duty officer, whom they tried to beat and take away his weapon.

What threatens TRC employees

The grenadier-soldier is accused of unlawful deprivation of liberty, torture and intentional infliction of moderate bodily harm (Chapter 3 of Article 127, Chapter 2 of Article 146, Chapter 2 of Article 122 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)

The commander of the security department is accused of torturing and causing minor bodily harm (Chapter 3 of Article 127, Chapter 1 of Article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The military court imposed pre-trial measures for both men. They got a night house arrest and were dismissed from their posts.
