The closest tactical objective of the Russian army near Bakhmut is the city of Chasiv Yar. However, a full-scale offensive is unlikely.

British intelligence assesses the next operational goal of the Russian invaders

The UK Intelligence summary says Russian forces are continuing attacks to expand their control over the city of Bakhmut, which Russia captured in May 2023. The troops have advanced to occupy the eastern part of the village of Ivanivske and are attacking Ukrainian positions in Bohdanivka.

According to British intelligence, Russia's closest operational objective in this direction is almost certainly to capture Chasiv Yar, located approximately 5 km from the front line.

Despite some gradual tactical gains, it is highly unlikely that Russian forces are able to attempt a full-scale assault on the twon, the British Ministry of Defence notes

What is the situation in the Donetsk region

The Russian army actively advances in Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka and Andriivka. Their infantry units and the 98th Guards Airborne Division were involved there.

Also, in the Novomykhailivka area of the Donetsk region, the Russian army is concentrating very significant reserves and transferring reinforcements to capture the village itself.

On Mar. 2, Ukrainian soldiers from the 79th separate Tavria Assault Brigade defeated a group of Russian infantry and armoured vehicles that tried to storm Novomykhailivka in Donetsk region

Another enemy assault on the positions of the Tavria paratroopers ended with the loss of personnel and armoured vehicles. Novomykhailivka continues to be one of the hottest places on the Russian-Ukrainian front. The enemy is making every effort to knock out paratroopers of the 79th Air Assualt Bridage from this settlement.

During one of the last assaults, the Russian Federation threw infantry on armored vehicles into battle. Instead, the soldiers of the 79th Assault Brigade eliminated the enemies and crushed the armored vehicles.
