The liquidation of the Russian missile corvette "Ivanovets" will affect the functional capabilities of the Russian Federation's Black Sea Fleet.

What are the consequences of the destruction of "Ivanovets" corvette of Russia's Black Sea Fleet

The UK intelligence notes it is likely that the destruction of the corvette will have an impact on the command and control elements of the Black Sea Fleet and may also force it to reassess its manoeuvrability near Western Crimea.

The British Ministry of Defense analysed the video of the drone strikes on the ship and indicated that it resulted in a large hole that "almost certainly led to the sinking of the ship."

Describing the vessel's characteristics, British intelligence explained that its sophisticated communications system allows it to send and receive guidance data to and from other ships, helicopters and long-range patrol aircraft.

It is noted that this latest success by Ukraine highlights the continued vulnerability of Russian warships operating in the Black Sea.

However, the Russian Navy is almost certain still able to conduct its three main tasks in the Black Sea: long-range strike, patrol and support, the review says.

What is known about the destruction of "Ivanovets"

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) reported that on the night of January 31 to February 1, 2024, the DIU "Group 13" special unit soldiers destroyed the missile boat "Ivanovets" of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation.

The DIU chief, Gen Kyrylo Budanov, said that the Russian missile corvette "Ivanovets" sank on the night of February 1 in a raid on Lake Donuzlav as a result of six direct hits by Ukrainian naval drones.

For the occupiers, the loss of the Ivanovets' missile corvette is significant since there are only three such boats in the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation.

In a preliminary review, British intelligence said that the Russian Federation would have to reduce its contribution to the fund, which is increasingly being used to finance its war in Ukraine, due to a discrepancy between planned budget revenues and expenditures.
