The Ukrainian Embassy has opened its doors in Accra, the capital of Ghana. Currently, a Charge d'Affaires will work there.
New embassies of Ukraine in African countries
The Ukrainian MFA chief, Dmytro Kuleba, reminded that last year, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, set the task of opening new embassies in Africa.
According to Kuleba, this is part of Ukraine's strategy for developing relations with African countries and countering the influence of the Russian Federation in the world.
A Charge d'Affaires will work in Ghana until the ambassador is appointed. According to the MFA, the embassy will develop political contacts, strengthen economic ties, and provide consular services for Ukrainians and Ghanaians.
Kuleba also added that the following embassies of Ukraine will be opened in Rwanda, Mozambique and Botswana. Ukraine plans to open ten new embassies in Africa.
Search for ambassadors to African countries
In March, the Ukrainian MFA opened vacancies for ambassadors to 21 countries, mainly in Africa.
According to Kuleba, a total of 1,038 people submitted their applications. Among them are 75 current and former diplomats, 126 scientists and teachers, 387 entrepreneurs and representatives of business circles, 56 civil servants and employees of state enterprises.
As a result, 30 candidates who had to pass tests and receive invitations to interviews from the MFA HR service were found.
A security check and an interview by the minister awaited those who passed this stage. After that, Kuleba will form the final list of candidates and offer Zelenskyy to consider these candidates.
