Ukraine's government approves appointment of Melitopol's mayor as head of Zaporizhzhia RMA

The government approved the appointment of Ivan Fedorov, the mayor of Melitopol, occupied by the criminal army, as the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration (RMA) instead of Yuriy Malashko.

According to the information of the representative of the government in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, the Cabinet of Ministers, at the same time, agreed to dismiss Yuriy Malashko from the position of the head of the Zaporizhzhia RMA.

What is known about Ivan Fedorov

Ivan Fedorov — Ukrainian politician, public figure, Mayor of Melitopol.

He was born into a family of doctors in the city of Melitopol. Graduated from the Tavria University of Agricultural Technology (master's degree in enterprise economics); Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (Bachelor of Management; Dnipropetrovsk Regional Institute of Public Administration of the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine).

From 2010 to 2013, he was the "Computed Tomography Center" PE director. Also, in 2010, he was elected to the Melitopol City Council from the "Party of Regions".

From 2014 to 2019, he was a deputy mayor of Melitopol for the activities of the council's executive bodies.

In 2015, Fedorov was elected to the Zaporizhia Regional Council from the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko party.

From August to October 2019, he worked as the director of the Department of Transport Infrastructure of the Kyiv City State Administration.

After that, from November 2019 to November 2020, he was the first deputy head of the Zaporizhia Regional State Administration.

In 2022, during the full-scale invasion of the Russian army, the city of Melitopol was occupied from the first days.

In March 2022, the occupiers kidnapped Ivan Fedorov for refusing to cooperate with the invaders.

About two thousand city residents protested the next day and demanded Fedorov's release.

After six days of captivity, he was exchanged for nine captured Russian conscripts.

After his release from captivity, Ivan Fedorov was awarded the Order "For Courage" of the third degree.
