After certification, women's body armour became available for centralized purchase. The Ministry of Defense expects the need to purchase these products from AFU General Staff and will form volumes and lists for procurement.
Women's bulletproof vest was certified for the first time in Ukraine
The first bulletproof vest for female military personnel has been certified in Ukraine. The sample was approved after two stages of testing.
Oleksandr Sharko, the chief specialist of the Central Department of Development and Material Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, talked about it.
Curved armor plate, narrowed shoulders, widened bottom — these are the design features of the first certified bulletproof vest for women soldiers in Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense noted.
According to Sharko, the sample was approved after two stages of testing. After the first stage of field tests, the bulletproof vest was refined considering the structure of the female body.
Since women's shoulders are narrower, and the pelvis, on the contrary, is wider than men's, it was inconvenient for personnel to work with weapons in the "male" version of the bulletproof vest, the specialist said.
According to other parameters, the body armour, weighing 10.5 kg depending on the size and equipment, does not differ from the previously approved military bulletproof vest.
Sharko also noted that the "women's" version for convenience involves an outwardly curved armour plate.
After certification, the vest became available for centralized purchase. The Ministry of Defense expects from the General Staff the need to purchase these products. After that, the Ministry of Defense will form volumes and lists for procurement, the ministry added.
The purchase of women's body armour will be handled by the "State Rear Operator".
The summer field uniform for military women has appeared in the Armed Forces
On August 3, 2023, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine approved the standard sample of the summer field suit for female personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. From then on, the women's summer field uniform is officially put on hold.
Work on the introduction of women's field uniforms began in 2022, by the minister's instructions and at the initiative of the Arm Women Now project, the public initiative Forma Two, and with the participation of the adviser — authorised by the President of Ukraine on barrier-free issues.
According to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksii Reznikov, the technical specification for this type of physical support was approved based on the results of tests of the summer field suit for female military personnel.
