The Ministry of Defense is terminating contracts with companies of the Hrynkevych family

Deputy Minister of Defense Vitalii Polovenko said that the Ministry of Defense would terminate all contracts with the companies of the Hrynkevych family.

This happened amid the scandal involving the embezzlement of funds that should have been transferred to the AFU's balance sheet.

What is known about the corruption scandal surrounding the Hrynkevychs

The SBI employees detained the Lviv businessman Ihor Grynkevich for trying to pay a bribe of 500,000 dollars to one of the heads of the Bureau. The fact is that companies registered as members of the Hrynkevych family are suspected of 1.5 billion hryvnias of procurement fraud for the Ministry of Defense.

On December 30, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv chose a pre-trial measure for Hrynkevych — detention with an alternative of bail for over 420 million hryvnias. As of January 9, the entrepreneur remains under arrest.

During the investigation, it was established that enterprises under the control of the businessman were involved in the execution of defence orders, which were previously engaged in construction and did not have adequate production, warehouse and other capacities for the production and storage of property for the MOD needs. According to preliminary estimates, this led to budget losses of 1.2 billion hryvnias and the following supply disruption.

Six contracts were utterly unfulfilled. Under at least seven contracts, the companies delivered goods to the warehouses of military units in small quantities but received state money for complete fulfilment of obligations. The law enforcement officers also established that eight contracts were executed 3 to 5 months late.

In the fall of 2023, the publication "Nashi Groshi" [Our Money in English — Ed.] reported that they plan to build a Citizen Security Centre in the Lviv Region in the village of Novyi Kropyvnyk. According to the tender results, the Lviv Regional State Administration (RMA) Department of Capital Construction ordered the construction from "Building Alliance Montageproekt" LLC for 33 million hryvnias. The "Nashi Groshi" investigative journalists established that the value of many construction materials is 1.5 times higher than the market price, and the director and founder of "Building Alliance Montageproekt" LLC is Roman Hrynkevych, the son of the detained entrepreneur.

Previously, the same company performed works commissioned by the Department of Regional Development of the Zhytomyr RMA. Also, in the fall of 2023, Roman Grynkevych's company won a tender for almost 115 million hryvnias for "reconstruction with the addition of 12 classrooms and reconstruction of the existing block of the school in the village of Chernytsia of the Stryi district in the Lviv region."

On the day of Ihor Grynkevych's detention, journalist Yevhen Plinskyi stated that Roman Grynkevych was engaged to the artist Sofia Morozyuk while noting that she allegedly received expensive gifts from her fiancé. The journalist accused him of being involved in corruption schemes and investing the money received from them into the artist's career.

Igor Hrynkevych's wife, Svitlana, is a professor at Lviv Polytechnic National University. She works as the deputy head of the department of marketing and logistics for scientific work. On January 8, the publication "Vysokyi Zamok" reported that Svitlana had applied for a vacation at her expense "due to family circumstances."

According to the YouControl service, Svitlana Hrynkevych is the founder of five companies — four of which are based in Lviv — Lviv Prefabricated Plant-1, Rent Estate, Vernisage - 2000, and Yuaforlife. The fifth company, "Renaissance-style", is registered in the village of Solonka in the Lviv region. Currently, Svitlana is listed in the service registers as the head of Rent Estate and Yuaforlife.
