Ukraine's MOD says over 45 000 women currently serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine notes that the number of women in the Armed Forces is steadily increasing. The new statistics were released on Mar. 8, on International Women's Day.

What is known about the number of women in the Armed Forces of Ukraine

According to the latest data, 45,587 servicewomen are serving in the Ukrainian army as of January 2024.

It is essential to understand that, for comparison, this indicator was over 16.5 thousand ten years ago, and in 2023 — over 43.4 thousand.

Among the women currently in the military, 13,487 are combatants. Over 4,000 women defenders are in the area of hostilities.

In general, in 2024, the total number of women in the Armed Forces (not only military personnel) will reach 62,000. In 2014, this figure was 49,000.

The Military Media Center reported over 5,000 military women in the combat zone.

Zelenskyy addressed Ukrainian women on International Women's Day

On Mar. 8, the head of state, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, addressed Ukrainians on International Women's Day.
