Ukraine's MP and member of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy and Housing Services, Serhiy Nagornyak, officially confirmed that the tariff for electricity in Ukraine could reach almost six UAH.

The growth of the electricity tariff in Ukraine. What will change?

The deputynoted that in the event of a sharp price increase, it is extremely important to maintain subsidies for those categories of people who cannot afford such a price.

In this case, the state together with our partners should support the people! But we have to understand that the state cannot subsidise everyone without exception, Serhiy Nagornyak said.

According to him, the liberalisation of tariffs will allow the two state companies to stop subsidizing the population and accumulate funds for the start of the completion of the 3rd and 4th power units of the Khmelnytskyi NPP in a year.

At the same time, "Ukrhydroenergo" will be able to start construction of the Kanivska HPP with a capacity of 1,000 MW, the cost of which is estimated at 1.2 billion US dollars.

It is important to understand that, as of today, the cost of electricity for the population is UAH 2.64/kWh.

As mentioned earlier, the government of Ukraine has already cancelled the ban on terminating the provision of housing and communal services, the assessment and collection of fines (fines, penalties) and arrears for public housing in case of non-payment.

According to preliminary data, the beginning of power cuts due to debts will start in the coming days.

During the period of full-scale war, from the end of February 2022, the debts of household consumers for electricity increased by UAH 15 billion. Over the past year, the amount of debts increased by approximately UAH 7.7 billion.

Czech Prime Minister Names Two of Ukraine's Closest Allies

Britain and France have now become Ukraine's closest allies
Source:  Financial Times

According to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fial, at present, it is Great Britain and France, which lead the "coalition of the willing," that can be considered the leaders of "hard power" in Europe. The politician drew attention to the fact that they are doing everything possible to end the war and protect Ukraine from potential attacks by the Russian Federation.

Points of attention

  • The deployment of European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine is under consideration, pending a ceasefire agreement.
  • In times of crisis, the Czech Prime Minister acknowledges the crucial role of France and Britain, despite previous reservations.

Britain and France have now become Ukraine's closest allies

As Fiala argues, the time has come when the most powerful countries must take more responsibility for what is happening on the international stage.

France and the United Kingdom — European nuclear powers — realized this in time and have already begun active work, in particular to deter Russia.

Against this background, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic assessed the chances of deploying European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.

He made it clear that the Czech government would have to approve the deployment of the contingent. However, the politician noted that it was premature to discuss this issue, as no ceasefire agreement had been reached yet:

However, we must be open to any option that will stop any Russian aggression in the future.

He also frankly admitted that in peacetime he had always been against a strong role for France and Britain, but in times of crisis it was simply necessary.
