Carbon dioxide emissions as a result of military operations have caused more than $10 billion in damage to the Ukrainian ecology since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Ukrainian ecology is in a terrible state because of the war

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources estimates additional CO2 emissions at $10 billion, but the country adheres to its obligations regarding environmental reforms.

The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported this.

Carbon dioxide emissions caused damage to the Ukrainian ecology for more than 10 billion dollars.

However, our country continues to fulfill its international obligations and does not abandon its climate goals, the ministry notes.

SLCPs, that is, short-lived environmental pollutants, also cause significant problems. They are "in second place" after CO2 in terms of impact on climate change. By 2030, Ukraine plans to reduce the "Global Methane Pledge" share of methane emissions by 30%.

As noted, Ukraine continues European integration reforms, which will allow Ukrainian polluting enterprises to modernize and move towards the principles of circular economy. It is planned to recover using the latest technologies, such as hydrogen.

An international environmental conference was held in Kyiv

The international conference "United for Justice. United for Nature" occurred in Kyiv on October 20-21 and brought together leading experts worldwide to analyze modern legislation and scientific and economic trends in the context of responsibility for environmental damage caused by war.

We are the first in human history to investigate and establish environmental crimes as war crimes. We understand that being the first, we have no right to make a mistake. Therefore, by uniting all international partners, we can create well-established prosecution mechanisms for those who in the future will have the desire to create such crimes in other parts of the world, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin noted.

Kostin added that the certainty of punishing Russia for all crimes is the primary goal of the work of all our bodies.

When we talked about the deportation of Ukrainian children, we said that Russia is trying to steal our future. But when we started recording environmental crimes, we realized that this is also a crime against our state, because when the enemy tries to destroy our environment, he also tries to destroy our future.
