Umierov canceled his visit to France

On January 18 in Paris, French Minister of Armed Forces Sebastien Lecornu is to launch an "artillery coalition" aimed at strengthening Kyiv's capabilities against Russia.

Defence Minister of Ukraine Rustem Umierov was supposed to attend the meeting. However, he canceled his visit to France at the last moment "for security reasons" and will participate in the ceremony via video conference.

Umierov and Lecornu were to go to the Nexter industrial facilities in Bourges, where Caesar self-propelled artillery installations are produced, and to the missile manufacturer MBDA in Selles-Saint-Denis.

Artillery coalition: what is known

This coalition is led by France and the United States. It is one of the components of the Contact Group on the Defence of Ukraine in the Rammstein format, which unites more than 50 countries.

This coalition, which includes twenty-three countries, "aims to join forces to help — in the short and long term — Ukraine to have artillery adapted to the needs of the counteroffensive and its army of tomorrow," said the representative of the Ministry of Armed Forces of France.

In order to arm the self-propelled guns, the European Union has set itself the goal of producing one million rounds of ammunition for Ukraine by the spring of 2024. But to date, according to MEPs, only 300,000 shells have been delivered.

We will remind that on January 17, France announced that it will produce 78 Caesar self-propelled guns for Ukraine.
