US Ambassador says Ukraine needs help amid Russia's massive missile attacks

US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink reacted to the new Russia's massive missile attack on the morning of 2 January. She stressed that Ukraine needs help to stop Russia.

Putin is ringing in 2024 by firing missiles at Kyiv and the rest of the country, while millions of Ukrainians are once again hiding from the cold. This morning, there were loud explosions in Kyiv. It is now crucial to support Ukraine to stop Putin.

What is known about missile attack on January 2

In Kyiv, there were 7 fires in 6 districts: Obolon, Pechersk, Podil, Solomianskyi, Sviatoshynskyi and Desnianskyi districts.

More than 130 people were evacuated from a high-rise building in the Solomenskiy district. About 20 people were rescued from the blocked premises by the State Emergency Service. In total, more than 20 people were injured in the capital, and one person died.

In Kyiv region, Boryspil, Bucha and Fastiv districts were affected. Two people died in Fastiv district. 7 people were injured in Vyshneve.

Ukrenergo and regional power grids were damaged in Kyiv and the region. More than 250,000 consumers are disconnected. There are no plans to use emergency outage schedules.

In Kharkiv, one person was killed and 41 injured in explosions in the city centre. Significant damage to civilian infrastructure.
