The US and Great Britain are working to help Ukraine protect its energy system from Russian attacks this winter.
The energy system of Ukraine will be protected
Ms. Bridget Brink, the US Ambassador to Ukraine, announced this on Twitter.
She reported on meetings with the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Oleksandr Kurbakov, the head of Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytskyy, the head of the State Reconstruction Agency Mustafa Nayem, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and Great Britain.
According to Brink, during this meeting, the parties discussed joint efforts to protect the power system this winter.
Protection from Russian strikes
Earlier, the deputy head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Vadym Skibitskyy, called the limited capabilities of Ukrainian air defence one reason Russia could strike the energy network last year quickly.
He believes it will be more difficult for the Russians to achieve their goal since Ukraine now has a more powerful air defence system. In addition, the energy industry has been preparing all year for renewed missile and drone strikes by Russian terrorists.
Skibitskyi believes that this year's massive strikes may resume after the start when electricity consumption will reach peak figures in the autumn-winter period. "Russians are waiting for the temperature to drop below zero," Skibitskyy said.
The chief of "Ukrenergo", Volodymyr Kudrytskyy, said that during this winter, there may be problems related to mass shelling. But the power system will not collapse and will work.
According to Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko, Ukrainians should not believe the dire forecasts of experts regarding the threat of massive blackouts in winter because the stable operation of the energy system will depend on the process of air defence systems, which are currently much more potent than last winter.
