The restrictions, in particular, will be aimed at the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation and companies in third countries that facilitate Russia's access to certain goods.

In addition, the sanctions are being introduced as a reaction to the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

Adeyemo added that the restrictions are designed to keep pressure on Russia amid doubts about whether the US Congress will approve additional aid to Ukraine.
