The leader of the Republicans in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, urged his colleagues to consider the issue of aid to Ukraine separately from the issue of protecting the American border.
US aid to Ukraine. New proposals are heard in the US Senate
According to McConnell, the package of laws on immigration and international assistance, particularly to Ukraine, will not become law because of opposition from the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, and concerns among Republican senators.
That's why he urged his colleagues to finally reverse course on the national security package and focus on immediately allocating foreign aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
According to the leader of the Republicans in the Senate, lawmakers should move in this direction.
Mitch McConnell also asked Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer to decide how to finally reframe the issue.
The anti-Ukrainian bill failed to pass in Congress
On February 7, it became officially known that the House of Representatives of the US Congress did not pass the Republican bill, which provided for the provision of 17.6 billion dollars to Israel without aid to Ukraine.
The vote was 250 to 180, which was insufficient to pass the law because it was introduced under an accelerated procedure requiring a two-thirds majority.
It is worth noting that US President Joe Biden warned Congress against making the wrong decision regarding Ukraine on the eve of the vote.
