According to the chief negotiator from the Republicans, Senator James Lankford, already this week in the USA, the issue of aid to Ukraine against the background of its war with Russia may move.
Ukraine can still receive large-scale aid from the United States
The American senator officially confirmed that the text of the agreement on border and immigration issues, which will make it possible to unlock more than $61 billion in aid for Ukraine, can be made public this week.
He also emphasized that the probability that this agreement will work is entirely natural today.
According to James Lankford, if the Senate can pass this document, it will be sent to the House of Representatives, which will likely improve it.
Why has the U.S. still not resolved the issue of financial aid to Ukraine?
In October 2023, U.S. President Joe Biden asked Congress to approve additional funding, including more than $61 billion for Ukraine.
However, this decision has so far failed to pass due to bipartisan disagreements in the Senate on the issue of border security with Mexico.
On December 27, Washington announced it would provide Ukraine's last military aid package in 2023 for $250 million.
On January 7, U.S. Congress leaders announced a deal to fund the government through 2024, the first step toward averting a shutdown.
