A flood began in Zakarpattia region

On January 18, the water level in mountain rivers in the Zakarpattia region rose by several tens of centimetres. Residents of the region began to suffer from streams flooding houses, gardens and highways.

Footage from the village of Dovge in the Khust region shows streams of brown water flowing along a mountain river. The video shows that the road where the recording was made is not yet flooded.

In another video, you can see a flood in the plain. The water spilt over the fields and hills, rising to the thresholds of the houses. The place of recording is the Dusinka River and the village of Stroyne in the Mukachevo Region.

The flood in the Zakarpattia region: details

On January 18, the State Emergency Service of Zakarpattia region reported that a significant rise in water levels is expected due to snow melting in the mountains and precipitation.

The average level of rise is 30-90 cm. But on the Borzhava River, the water will rise by 140 cm and higher, the department's employees said.

It is forecasted that on January 19, the water in the river's lower reaches will rise to 650 cm. The post named some settlements at risk of flooding homesteads and fields: Mali Komyaty, Siltse, Zarechche, Kamianske, Velyki Komyati, Khmelnyk, etc.

The Shalanka — Velyki Komyati and Mukachevo — Rohatyn highways are also at risk. It is indicated that the second, orange, level of danger has been declared in the region.

Rain and sleet are expected in Zakarpattia on January 19. At the same time, the yellow (the first) level of complexity of the weather conditions was declared. It is also indicated that the water level on the rivers in the region's south will rise by 1 meter (the Latorytsia River near Mukachevo) and by 6 meters (the Borzhava River near Verkhni Remety settlement).
