Washington: There are no funds for new aid packages for Ukraine

The US no longer has the funds to provide Ukraine with new military aid packages, the White House has announced.

The US has no money for new aid packages for Ukraine

Joe Biden has signed the latest security assistance package for which they have funding authority, according to White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby.

That's it. We need additional support so that we could provide additional security assistance to Ukraine, Kirby said.

According to him, every time the US allocates a military aid package, there is always a delay of several days, if not weeks, so the weapons from the last military aid package have not yet been delivered to Ukraine.

This will happen in the coming days and weeks. There is no further funding, the White House spokesman said.

He also noted that he was not aware of any "quick" decision that could be made to resume the allocation of new defence aid packages to Ukraine.

What preceded it

At the end of last year, Congress did not support US President Joe Biden's request for more than $100 billion for national security, including more than $60 billion for Ukraine.

The main stumbling block was the Republicans, who refused to support the initiative. They demanded that the White House include their proposals for strengthening border security in the request.

Against this background, on 27 December, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that the United States had provided Ukraine with a $250 million military aid package, which may be the last in the near future.
