According to the Ukrainian Ambassador to the EU Vsevolod Chentsov, the official start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union will be the convening of an intergovernmental conference by the European Commission.

The ambassador is convinced that all the necessary conditions will be met 100% within the next few months.
The European Commission has to prepare a report and submit it to the member states in March to decide whether to convene a so-called intergovernmental conference, which is the physical start of negotiations, explained Vsevolod Chentsov.
According to him, neither Kyiv nor Brussels has the right to stand still until March and must prepare a negotiating platform for the talks.
The European Commission should conduct an analytical screening of Ukrainian legislation for compliance with EU requirements and determine where Ukraine stands in terms of compliance with EU conditions and how to build the negotiation process, added Vsevolod Chentsov.

As mentioned earlier, on 14 December 2023, during the European Union summit, member states supported the start of negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, and Georgia was granted "candidate" status.
Everyone expected Hungary to block the decision, but EU leaders persuaded Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to leave the room during the vote and thus abstain.
