The head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, notes that this year the Russian invaders will not be able to realize one of their key goals and capture Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

The strategic goal of the Russian Federation has not changed. The first is the destruction of Ukrainian statehood. That is, an operation to dismantle statehood. What they started. They understood that it will not be possible through military means, and they are trying to achieve it in other ways, - explained the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense.
Budanov emphasized that this year the Russian invaders are pursuing only one goal.
They have been trying to fulfill it for two years, but they have not yet fulfilled it: to go to the administrative borders of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and keep what is there. In 2022 and 2023, they could not do this. In 2024, they will not be able to do the same

How Ukraine can change the situation at the front
The head of the GUR noted that the sooner the Western partners provide Ukraine with weapons, the sooner the Ukrainian military will be able to change the negative situation at the front.
Budanov noted that, first of all, the Ukrainian military needs long-range weapons.
Because the enemy skillfully adapts to changing tactics and to those systems that are already in use. And the way it was in 2022 will no longer work. So, we need real long-range weapons and not one or two, relatively speaking, but significant volumes. This will make it possible to change the situation, which has developed now with a certain stagnation, - explains the head of the GUR.
Budanov also noted that Ukraine's attacks on strategic objects on the territory of Russia increase political pressure on the criminal Kremlin leadership.
