World leaders react to Russia's shelling of Ukraine on December 29

On the night and morning of 29 December, Russia launched its most massive air attack on Ukraine. World leaders call for more support for Ukraine and stress that attacks on civilian infrastructure are a war crime.

Reactions of world politicians to the December 29 missile attack

Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics called for immediate military and financial assistance to Ukraine.

Russian terrorists continue massive shelling of Ukrainian cities. Again: Ukraine must receive all military and financial assistance NOW, it is the only way to stop the war and attacks on civilian targets. Full solidarity with Ukraine in this difficult time!

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said that "for all those who say they are tired of the war in Ukraine, this is a reminder that Russia’s cruelty and bloodlust have no limits".

We MUST provide all possible support to Ukraine to defeat the aggressor! Hold on, Ukrainians, Lithuania is with you!

The Prime Minister of Estonia, Kaia Kallas, noted that Russia has carried out the largest attack on Ukraine, targeting the civilian population.

A war crime of a large scale. A reminder for the New Year that Russia's goals have not changed. It wants to destroy Ukraine. Preventing aggression is crucial for European and global security.

British Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Harris reminded that attacks on civilian infrastructure are war crimes.

This morning saw yet another heinous Russian attack on Ukraine. A maternity hospital, residential buildings, shopping centres and railway stations have reportedly been targeted during this festive season. Attacking civilian infrastructure is a war crime.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stressed that "these large-scale attacks on Ukrainian cities show that Putin will stop at nothing to achieve his goal of eradicating freedom and democracy".

We will not let him win. We must continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.

The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, called for the strengthening of Ukrainian air defence to protect human lives.

I am deeply concerned by today's massive Russian air attack on Ukrainian cities. My thoughts are with all those affected this morning and every day of this brutal war.
