How American howitzer M777 works at the front

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, showed the combat work of the soldiers of the 45th separate artillery brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The artillerymen are armed with the American M777 howitzer, which was handed over to Ukraine by our partners. According to Zaluzhnyi, the bad weather does not prevent the units from destroying enemies.

We are ready to work in any weather to support the infantry on the frontline. The intensity of our work depends on the number of targets we achieve. Today, for example, we successfully hit a concentration of enemy manpower. The fewer enemies there are on our land, the closer our victory is, say a Ukrainian artillerymen.

What is known about howitzers M777

It should be noted that the M777 howitzer has two types of shells — conventional and rocket. Both types are in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Rocket ammunition has a higher explosive content and a longer range.

The Ukrainian military explained that these howitzers are used to destroy forward command posts, ammunition and fuel and lubricant depots, enemy equipment, and enemy artillery batteries.

The Ministry of Defence has reported that the Ukrainian military is actively using the M777 howitzer in the war against the Russian occupiers. And President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously stated that he wants to open a plant in Ukraine to produce Challenger tanks and M777 guns.

The M777 was manufactured in 1987 as an ultra-light field howitzer (UFH). The weapon was developed in the town of Barrow-in-Furness, the UK, by the Vickers, a British engineering conglomerate.

Later the manufacturing of the howitzer was started in the US. Now 70% of the weapon parts, including the gun barrel, are produced by Watervliet Arsenal, New York.
