Zaluzhnyi's reaction to the draft law on mobilisation — video

Valerii Zaluzhnyi

On 26 December, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi commented on the introduction of a draft law on mobilisation to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament). As you know, this document caused a stir in society.

The Armed Forces are not involved in the draft law on mobilisation

According to Valerii Zaluzhnyi, neither he nor representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine submitted any documents to the Cabinet of Ministers, as it is simply impossible.

No draft laws have been submitted by the Armed Forces and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and cannot be submitted. This is due to the fact that the AFU and the General Staff are deprived of such a function as legislative initiative. The Armed Forces did not submit any documents to the Cabinet of Ministers, the Commander-in-Chief explained.

In addition, Valerii Zaluzhnyi stressed that the number of 400,000 to 500,000 mobilised people is formed by the military command based on current needs and the needs for the next year.

It (the number - ed.) provides for the formation of new military units and replenishment of losses that the country may suffer in 2024, he said.

Zaluzhnyi commented on the controversial points regarding mobilisation

According to Valerii Zaluzhnyi, working with disability groups II and III is not entirely relevant now, as the military qualification commission (The Medical (Military Medical) Commission) determines fitness or unfitness for military service.

As for the issue of postponement of mobilisation, this is the competence of the executive authorities, which can determine it.

For the Armed Forces, the most important thing is that people join the army and are able to perform their tasks... It is not my responsibility to decide who the state will draft. I need people, ammunition and weapons to continue fighting," explained the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Valerii Zaluzhnyi also officially confirmed that the military command agrees with the proposal of the Cabinet of Ministers, according to which the concept of "limited fitness" will not be included in the law.

Only the concept of fitness or unfitness for military service will remain.
