What Zelenskyy and Macron discussed

According to Zelenskyy, he briefed Macron on the situation at the front and thanked him for the military assistance provided by France.

The Presidents also discussed the priority needs and the next French defence package, which, according to the President, will significantly enhance Ukraine's firepower.

He thanked for the preparations to receive Ukrainian pilots for the second stage of the training programme on F-16 aircraft, Zelenskyy said.

The President said that the issue of the grain corridor was also raised during the conversation. Zelenskyy told his French counterpart about the functioning of the grain corridor, which, despite Russia's best efforts, has already transported 7.5 million tonnes of cargo.

I also emphasised the importance of opening negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU at the European Council summit. Ukraine has fulfilled all the necessary recommendations of the European Commission. The decision of the European Council will have a significant impact on the motivation of the Ukrainian society and army, the President emphasised.

Macron meets with Orban on Ukraine's accession to the EU

On the evening of 7 December, the French President Emmanuel Macron met with the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Macron tried to persuade Orban to lift his veto on Ukraine's accession to the European Union, but failed.

Viktor Orban maintained his position before the European Council meeting on 14 and 15 December. The publication notes that the decisions of the meeting could plunge Europe into a deep political and geopolitical crisis.

According to the French leader, he still has a chance and opportunity to persuade Putin's protege to change his position on Kyiv's future in the European Union.
