The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, had his first telephone conversation with the new Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk. They discussed the upcoming EU summit and support for Ukraine.

Zelenskyy spoke with Tusk

The conversation took place during Zelenskyy's stay in Norway.

He congratulated Tusk on his appointment and "the beginning of a new page in our bilateral relations."

On the eve of the summit of the European Council, its future decisions, which will unite the entire European community, were discussed. Heard words of sincere support. We are even stronger when we are together - Ukraine and Poland. I am sure that with the new Polish government we will speed up the mutually beneficial solution of all problematic issues in our relations, Zelenskyy said.

He added that he agreed with Tusk on the schedule of further contacts and invited him to visit Ukraine "as soon as possible".

Donald Tusk promises to strengthen European determination to support Ukraine

In an interview with journalists in Brussels after arriving at the EU summit on December 13, Donald Tusk said that he could not agree with apathy or fatigue towards Ukraine because it is not only about Ukraine and Russian aggression but also about the future of Europe.

My role will be to strengthen European resolve to support Ukraine. Despite what is happening in the US, I will try to convince some member states — Hungary above all — on this issue. I will try to find a new key to convince Mr. Orbán. As you know, Prime Minister Orbán is a very pragmatic politician. Consider it a compliment.

On December 13, Tusk's government was sworn in and officially started work.

On December 14, he can meet with Zelenskyy.
