The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine asked to mobilize an additional 450,000-500,000 people. However, Zelenskyy noted that mobilization in this format will cost Ukraine an additional 500 billion hryvnias.

What Zelenskyy said about additional mobilization in Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that during the discussion of the law on changing the order of mobilization, the military proposed to conscript 450-500 thousand people.

The AFU Commander-in-Chief [Gen Valerii Zaluzhnyi — Ed.] and the [AFU] General Staff appealed to the level of the Headquarters [of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ed.] for mobilization. The issue is sensitive. They asked about the protection of our state and potential countermeasures regarding the deficit. And their view was, they offered to mobilize an additional 450-500 thousand people, the head of state said.

According to him, this is a serious number. He told the military that such a step requires more arguments because it questions people, justice, defence capability, and finances.

He added that there should be a comprehensive plan for what will happen to the million-strong army and the soldiers who have been protecting our state for two years. This plan should be contained in the law, which the Verkhovna Rada and the military are developing.

As for money. Mobilization in this format will cost Ukraine an additional 500 billion hryvnias. Therefore, as the president of Ukraine, as a person who devotes a lot of time to finding financial support for Ukraine, I would like an understanding from the Prime minister and the minister of finance — where does the money come from? — Zelenskyy emphasized.

What is known about mobilization in Ukraine

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the general mobilization has continued in Ukraine.

Recently, the country's authorities decided to change the procedure for its implementation. The Verkhovna Rada is drafting a draft law to include military initiatives.

Also, the NSDC Disinformation Center denied rumours about the mobilization of Ukrainian women, declaring that this is another Russian propaganda. As mentioned earlier, there is no question of forced mobilization of the female population in our country.
