Martial law and mobilisation in Ukraine have been extended again
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed laws on continuing general mobilisation and martial law in Ukraine.
Accordingly, the term of the particular legal regime has been extended from February 14, 2024, for 90 days until May 13, 2024.
It is already the tenth extension of martial law from February 24, 2022.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, martial law has been imposed in Ukraine and general mobilisation has been announced, and conscripts are prohibited from leaving the country, except for certain exceptions.
What is known about the new Bill on mobilisation
On February 7, the Verkhovna Rada supported the government's bill on mobilisation in the first reading.
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, stated that the new version of the draft law on mobilization contains several norms contradicting the Constitution of Ukraine. However, in the first reading, he called Parliament to adopt the Bill.
On January 30, the Cabinet of Ministers approved and submitted to the Verkhovna Rada the updated bil on mobilisation.
The updated bill proposes introducing measures of influence on evaders, which court decisions can apply.
The bill contains regulations on changing the rules for conscripts to go abroad, providing "respite" against conscription for Ukrainians, permission to send summonses through an electronic cabinet, lowering the military age to 25 years, restrictions on military service evaders and more.
The exception is only those who have been found unreliable for military service.
