President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on partners to transfer frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, as the loss of money would be the most painful loss for the agressor coutry.

Russia is indifferent to human lives, but not to its money

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, frozen Russian assets abroad amount to about $300 billion. All the funds should be used to support Ukraine, which will be a historic opportunity to make the terrorist country pay for its crimes.

Russia's elites and leadership do not care about human lives, but above all, they do not care about money. The loss of assets will be the most painful loss for them. They will feel the true strength of the international community and see that the world is stronger than terror, Volodymyr Zelenskyy added.

According to President, the decision to use the frozen assets to support Ukraine will be a fair and legitimate response to Russian aggression, as well as the right signal to potential aggressors in the world.

I urge our partners to move quickly to create an appropriate legal framework. This year, we must make tangible progress in the use of frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine. On the way to this goal, we firmly rely on the leadership of the G7, President added.

What is known about transfer of Russian assets to Ukraine

The United States has proposed that the G7 countries confiscate $300 billion of frozen Russian assets in favour of Ukraine. The plan is to be agreed upon by the second anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

As Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal recently noted, the United States, the European Union and other countries are already close to resolving the issue.

We already have the first precedents of changes to legislation that provide for mechanisms for transferring funds. It is now important to bring it to a single, clear system that will involve the EU and G7 countries, the Prime Minister said.
