Following the massive Russian missile attack on 2 January, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that since 31 December, the Russian army has already used about 170 Shahed attack drones and dozens of missiles of various types against Ukraine.
Zelensky reacted to Russia’s massive missile attacks
The President said that the vast majority of missiles and drones were aimed at civilian objects. He thanked the air force and rescuers for their work.
Missile attack on January 2
In the morning, Russia launched a massive missile attack on Kyiv and Kharkiv. The Russian occupiers fired 83 missiles at Ukraine, and the air defence forces destroyed 72 air targets.
In particular, they managed to shoot down 10 out of 10 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles, 59 out of 70 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles and 3 out of 3 Kalibr cruise missiles.
In Kyiv, 2 people were killed and 43 injured. Fires were reported in 8 districts. Two multi-storey residential buildings caught fire in the Solomiansk district.
In Kyiv region, 2 people were killed and 11 others were injured, including a child.
Kharkiv was attacked by Iskander mobile short-range ballistic missile systems. About 25 civilian infrastructure facilities and multi-storey buildings were destroyed as a result. 45 civilians were injured and one person was killed.
