Zelenskyy says Putin's war goal isn't occupation of some territories but total Ukraine's destruction

According to the head of state Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is not interested in "just some territory". He plans to destroy Ukraine completely.

Zelenskyy explained what Putin had in mind

According to the Ukrainian leader, strikes on civilian objects, intimidation of the population, and public statements of Putin's entourage in their media — all these messages indicate that they could not achieve their goals in Ukraine.

... All these messages indicate that his target is not individual territories but the whole of Ukraine. Therefore, no one guarantees anything to Ukraine except the forces of Ukraine and the allied partnership. We are sure that Putin is not interested in any territory: a city or a village, Crimea or Donbas. He is interested in eradicating Ukraine and annexing the lands of independent Ukraine to Russia.

The head of state noted that the head of the Kremlin fully controls the empowered bloc [so-called "siloviki" in Russian - Ed.] and Belarus's troops.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy added that the attack on Ukraine from the territory of Belarus on the first night of the full-scale invasion is proof of that.

This is the diplomatic occupation of an independent country and the loss of sovereignty of Belarus. In Ukraine, politically, he could not do it... That's why he started a military occupation. He has no plan for Crimea or Donbas. This is just rhetoric. His plan is to deprive Ukraine of its independence, the president explained.

Zelenskyy rejects the option of "freezing" the war

According to the head of state, a possible pause in the war will be "a serious challenge for the preservation of Ukraine and its future."

Moreover, this will be a problem of frozen conflict for Europe.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy reminded that Ukraine had proof of freezing the conflict, in particular after the occupation of Crimea and part of Donbas.

It was similar to what is now heard in some media and from some leaders. They say that a pause is needed... But we have already been through it. A pause in the war is not a pause in the war but for Putin.
