As a result of the crash of the Il-76 plane in the Ivanovo region of the Russian Federation, 15 people were killed. The accurate number of people on board during the accident remains unknown.

What is known about the crew of the Il-76 aircraft

According to Russian media, 15 people died during the accident of the Il-76 military transporter in the Ivanovo region. There were eight crew members and seven passengers on board.

According to the information of the CK-OGPU Telegram channel, Il-76 passengers may be operational officers, including the A-50 AWACS, and the Severny airport in the Ivanovo region, near which the plane fell, is one of the deployment bases of these aircraft type, in particular the A-50 AWACS.

At the same time, it is stated that one of the causes of the Il-76 engine catching fire, which fell in the Ivanovo region, could be the rupture of the rotor part.

According to our information, the fallen military transporter was equipped with an engine of an old modification. Where after a long run due to metal fatigue, the rotor part can break. As the rotors rotate at very high speeds, their debris flies like bullets and pierces the fuel lines and hydraulics along with the fuselage. As a result, the engine almost always catches fire, the message explains.

It is noted that they tried to correct this shortcoming even in the USSR, but it did not work. Modern Il-76MD-90A are already produced with new engines. But old modifications are also used. For example, the Il-76 fell near Ryazan during a training flight in 2022 after the engine caught fire.

Then five people died, four were injured.
