Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War point to the successful advance of the Ukrainian military in the area of the administrative border of the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions.

What is known about the situation on the eastern front

It is noted that the Ukrainian military succeeded in advancing along the front line south of Novomykhailivka, which is southwest of Russian-occupied Donetsk.

In addition, the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to force the Russian occupiers to retreat to the northeast of Zavitne Bazhannia and advance to the southwest of Myrne.

Analysts point to positional battles without signs of apparent changes in the front line in the Synkivka and Krokhmalne areas, which are near Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region.

According to the spokesperson of one AFU unit, on the Lyman and Kupiansk front lines, the Russian occupiers continue to carry out assault operations by infantry groups of up to 20 people with the support of armoured vehicles.

At the same time, the intensity of enemy artillery in this area increased almost twice.

He added that Russian forces rotate personnel almost every week, but there is no noticeable increase in the number of Russian troops in the area.

In addition, positional battles also continued to the northwest of Svatove near Stelmakhivka, to the northwest and west of Kreminna near Yampolivka, Makiivka, Torske, Terny, near Dibrova and Serebryansky forest, near Bilogorivka.

According to the Russians, dense minefields hinder offensive actions in Bilogorivka.

In the Bakhmut district, fighting occurred near Vasyukivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka.

According to geolocation data as of January 25, the Russian army managed to advance to Ivanivskyi, Klishchiivka and Andriivka, northwest of Avdiivka and along Sportyvna Street in the southernmost residential area of Avdiivka.

According to military analyst Kostyantyn Mashovets, the Ukrainian military recently managed to advance to a distance of 100 meters near the "Tsarska Okhota" restaurant.

On January 25, according to Russian sources, Ukrainian forces conducted counterattacks for about three days, intending to regain positions in the area.

Positional battles continued near Novobakhmutivka, Stepovoy, Opytne, Spartak, Sieverne and southwest of Avdiivka near Nevelske and Pervomaiske.

According to the spokesman of the National Guard, Colonel Ruslan Muzychuk, in the Avdiivka area, the Russian occupiers used a somewhat limited amount of military equipment. They relied on small infantry groups for reconnaissance and assault operations.

ISW analysts also suggest that the criminal army of the Russian Federation may attempt to break through Avdiivka after unsuccessful attempts to surround the city.

The occupiers have recently focused offensive operations on the southern residential area of the city.

They are still attacking the northern and southern flanks of Avdiivka but at a rate much lower than the initial waves that were in the fall of 2023

Russian forces may try to recreate the gruelling frontal assaults of light infantry to gain tactical advantage by brute force, as in the Battle of Bakhmut.

On January 25, Major of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Maksym Morozov said that Russian troops have concentrated 40,000 people near Avdiyivka and are preparing to intensify their offensive against the city.

At the same time, analysts point to the recent advance of the Ukrainian military to the southwest of Russian-occupied Donetsk.

According to Kostyantyn Mashovets, Ukrainian forces have recently advanced from 500 meters to 1.5 km along the front line section south of Novomykhailivka, which is southwest of Donetsk.

It is noted that positional battles near Georgiivka, Pobieda and Novomykhailivka are ongoing.

In addition, on January 25, the Ukrainian military struck the training ground of Russian drone operators near the occupied Ilovaisk.

Russian sources claim that Ukrainian forces struck the training land of the Russian military unit No. 78528 near Pokrovka, east of Ilovaisk, killing 24 service members of the Russian Federation.

What is known about the situation on the southern front

According to Mashovets, the Ukrainian military forced the Russian occupiers to retreat 150 meters northeast of Zavitne Bazhannia, 12 km south of Velyka Novosilka in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Mashovets clarified that units of the 60th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade and the 37th Guards Infantry Brigade of the Russian Federation operate near Zavitne Bazhannia.

Positional combat continued east and west of Staromayorske and the south of Zolota Nyva.

Mashovets reported that Ukrainian forces advanced to a depth of one kilometre southwest of Myrne, 16 km northwest of Robotyne.

He said that Ukrainian forces were able to repulse the advance of units of the Russian 70th Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment in the direction of Novoprokopivka after the occupiers tried to attack Ukrainian positions near Robotyne.

Positional battles continued on January 25 on the left bank of the Kherson region near Krynky, but neither side made any confirmed advances.
