The leadership of the faction of the CDU/CSU opposition bloc in the Bundestag does not support the British proposal to exchange Taurus missiles for British Storm Shadow missiles in order to provide Ukraine with long-range weapons.

In Germany, Taurus rockets are considered the best

In an interview with the newspaper Rheinische Post, the deputy head of the CDU/CSU faction Johann Wadeful said that everything must be done to prevent the defeat of Ukraine, which includes the supply of "the best weapons systems, and Taurus is just such a system."

DW writes about it.

No round exchange can replace it in terms of range, accuracy and power.

Prior to that, the heads of the CDU and its sister party the CSU - Friedrich Merz and Markus Söder - called for Taurus to be handed over to Ukraine.

Earlier, the member of the German Bundestag from the "Greens" Anton Hofreiter supported the British proposal to exchange Taurus missiles for the British Storm Shadow.

What Britain is offering Germany regarding Taurus missiles

As the British Foreign Minister David Cameron said, Britain is determined to work closely with our German partners in all matters to help Ukraine.

Cameron explained that a possible ring exchange is allowed. For example, Germany will transfer Taurus missiles to Britain, and London, in turn, will provide Ukraine with additional Storm Shadow missiles.

We are ready to consider all options to achieve the maximum effect for Ukraine... But will not give any details and will not tell our opponents what we are planning.

Cameron dismissed fears that the cruise missile transfer could lead to escalation.

It is absolutely possible to set limits on the use of these weapons to ensure that they do not contribute to escalation in any way, he said, adding that Britain trusts Ukraine's assurances.
