Armed Forces of Ukraine confirm successful strikes on Saky airfield

The Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykola Oleshchuk, said that the security forces struck at the control and dispatch centre at the Saky airfield, located near the village of Novofedorivka in western Crimea.

Saky air base! All targets are destroyed! Unfortunately, our air forces were left without one control point in Crimea, Oleshchuk wrote.

The successful operation was probably due to the work of Ukrainian pilots. The commander thanked them for their work.

It is known that the 43rd Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Russian air force, which supports Russian troops in southern Ukraine, is based at the Saky airfield. The occupation group is armed with Su-24 bombers and Su-30 fighter jets.

What preceded it

Eyewitnesses also reported that debris fell on a private house in the village of Mykhailivka, located near the military airfield, and a fire broke out.

Subsequently, the Russian Ministry of Defence stated that on the night of 6 January, their air defence systems shot down four airborne guided missiles over occupied Crimea.
