Argentina supplies two Mi-17 helicopters to Ukraine

Mi-17

The newly elected president of Argentina, Javier Milei, agrees to hand over two Mi-17 helicopters purchased in Russia in 2011 to Ukraine.

What is known about the Mi-17 helicopter supply?

Milei prioritised alliances with "countries that defend freedom," including the United States, Israel, which he visited earlier this month, and Ukraine, to which he handed over two Russian-made military helicopters, the FT publication writes.

The transfer of two ships in Arctic modification to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation was ordered in the early 2010s. Initially, the contract with Russia was more significant, but later, Argentina refused further purchases.

Also, the authoritative mass media added that Miley plans to hold a "summit of Latin American support" for Ukraine later this year. This makes him sharply different from other regional leaders, such as the Brazilian Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the Mexican Andrés Manuel López Obrador. They took a "more neutral position" about Ukraine.

The Financial Times notes that Milei differs from other regional leaders, such as Brazil's Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Mexico's Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who have taken a more neutral stance on Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

At the same time, Milei favours alliances with "countries that defend freedom," including the United States, Israel, which he visited earlier this month, and Ukraine, to which he gave two Russian-made military helicopters.

In November 2023, the President of Argentina, Javier Milei, offered Volodymyr Zelenskyy to host a conference on achieving peace in Ukraine in the South American country.

In response, Zelenskyy "thanked Miley for his clear support."

On December 10, Zelenskyy took part in the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected president of Argentina and held a meeting with him.

Later, the deputy head of the Ukrainian President's Office, Ihor Zhovkva, reported that a summit to support Ukraine with the leaders of Latin American countries is planned for the beginning of 2024.
