Argentine President Javier Milei confirms he plans to hold a "Latin American Support Summit" for Ukraine at the end of this year.
Milei longs for an alliance with Ukraine and the United States
Milei plans to hold a "Latin American Support Summit" for Ukraine at the end of 2024.
The Financial Times notes that Milei differs from other regional leaders, such as Brazil's Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Mexico's Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who have taken a more neutral stance on Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
At the same time, Milei favours alliances with "countries that defend freedom," including the United States, Israel, which he visited earlier this month, and Ukraine, to which he gave two Russian-made military helicopters.
Cooperation between Ukraine and Argentina
In November 2023, the President of Argentina, Javier Milei, offered Volodymyr Zelenskyy to host a conference on achieving peace in Ukraine in the South American country.
In response, Zelenskyy "thanked Milei for his clear support."
On Dec.10, 2023, Zelenskyy took part in the inauguration ceremony of the Argentine president-elect and held a meeting with him.
Later, the deputy head of the OPU, Ihor Zhovkva, reported that a summit to support Ukraine with the leaders of Latin American countries is planned for the beginning of 2024.
