Canada is considering the possibility of transferring CRV7 air-to-surface missiles to Ukraine. The Canadian government planned to dispose of them.

What is known about the alleged transfer of CRV7 missiles to Ukraine

The leader of the opposition Conservative Party of Canada, Pierre Poilievre, demanded to send CRV7 missiles to Ukraine at a meeting of the parliament on February 2. He emphasized that it is better to give the ammunition to Ukraine than to dispose of it.

Instead of forcing Canadians to pay millions of dollars to decommission these weapons, the weapons should be given to Ukraine, which can use them to defend its sovereignty, he said.

A spokesman for the defense minister confirmed that the Canadian government is considering providing the missiles. But the agency believes that before sending missiles to Ukraine, it is necessary to find out the needs of the Ukrainian army and the effectiveness of the missiles.

Canada emphasizes that the problem with supplying these missiles is that the country has tens of thousands of such missiles and engines for them, but not all of them have warheads.

CRV7 is a 70-mm Canadian-developed unguided aviation missile with a complex tail. It is intended for strikes against ground targets. The Canadian Ministry of Defense has 83,303 such missiles.

What is known about Canada's aid to Ukraine

It will be recalled that Canada has provided military and financial assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. On January 23, the Minister of Defense of Canada announced a new aid package for Ukraine. It included 10 multipurpose boats from Zodiac Hurricane Technologies.

Canada also announced the start of training of Ukrainians on F-16 fighters.

On February 2, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Melanie Jolie, arrived in Kyiv on a working visit. She met with her Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba and President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

Jolie made several important statements in Kyiv. In particular, about the fact that Ukraine and Canada are discussing security guarantees for our country, the agreement is already on the finish line, as well as about the creation of a coalition for the return of Ukrainian children.
