Crimean control post destruction: Humeniuk reveals the purpose of the operation

Armed Forces of Ukraine

The main goal of the attack on the enemy command post near Sevastopol was to deprive the Russian occupation of communication on the southern front.

Humeniuk names purpose of attack on the command post in Crimea

According to Natalia Humeniuk, the head of the Joint Coordination Press Centre of the Southern Operational Command of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, the information that the destroyed facility was an enemy command post is preliminary. Final information is being clarified.

Our combat work is based on targeted actions and calculated goals, taking into account the fact that the enemy may be hiding behind civilians. Therefore, we hope that preliminary intelligence data will allow us to draw comprehensive conclusions about the enemy's loss of control over its troops during our work, the spokeswoman said.

Humeniuk also commented on the information circulating online that the destroyed control centre near Sevastopol was responsible for a secure channel of communication with the Kremlin.

She did not rule this out, stressing that the data is being clarified. However, the spokeswoman stressed that the purpose of the operation is to deprive the occupiers of communication in the southern direction.

But the goal was exactly that: to deprive the southern direction, in particular, of control. And communications are the nerves of a military operation, so let them be nervous, she said.

Explosions in Crimea

On 4 January, powerful explosions occurred in Sevastopol and Yevpatoriya. Before that, the Russian occupiers blocked traffic on the Crimean bridge.

Later, the Strategic Communications Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that a strike had been launched against a Russian occupation forces' hub near occupied Sevastopol. Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force Mykola Oleshchuk said that the operation was carried out with the help of Ukrainian pilots.

The network also reported that a military unit in Yevpatoriya had been shelled, allegedly killing 23 occupiers and a Russian colonel.

In addition, information appeared online that Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, was allegedly killed in the strikes on Crimea. But Humeniuk has not yet confirmed this information.
