Andriy Yusov

On January 24, an exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine was to take place. The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) representative, Andriy Yusov, confirmed this information.

An exchange of prisoners was being prepared on January 24

I can state that the exchange planned for today is currently not taking place, - said Yusov.

According to him, the information voiced by the Russian side that POWs could be in the crashed Il-76 plane in the Belgorod region is currently being checked.

The IL-76 plane crash: what is known

Russian propaganda media spread information regarding Russia's Ministry of Defense that a Russian Il-76 military transport plane crashed in the Belgorod region during a scheduled flight.

They said that there were allegedly 65 captured Ukrainian servicemen on board, who were being transported to the Belgorod region for exchange, as well as six crew members and three escorts.

The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported that specialised structures in Ukraine are currently collecting information and analysing the plane crash.

Ukrainian mass media reported that there were probably S-300 missiles on board.

There have been no official announcements from the Ukrainian authorities yet.
